Editor's Note

Hi,

Happy New Year To You,

I hope you had a great holiday season.

As is customary for us, my wife and I traveled back to our home town of Chicago to be with our two children, their spouses, and our five grand children. We also had a chance to visit with our siblings as well as some close friends. It was very nice to see everyone and catch up in person on the latest news.

If you aren't aware of this, Chicago is generally not the best place to be in late December if you don't like cold weather or snow. We were pleasantly surprised to be greeted daily with high temps in the mid 40's, which isn't great in Arizona, but it's fantastic for the midwest. Unfortunately we both came home with colds.

Like most people, I'm guessing that many of you over ate during this holiday season and would like to get rid of some of that extra weight. Additionally, this is traditionally the time of year when many of us think about starting that long put off exercise program we've been meaning to start for way too long. If you haven't taken the opportunity to get a copy of my fitness and health program - If Not Now, When?, now is an ideal time. I am keeping the price at just $19.95, so it is very affordable for most anyone.

Here are comments from a few people who have already started using the book and add-ons that I am offering.

"If Not Now , When? " has become my mantra to keep me on track in Tom's program . I've been a member of at least 4 gyms and have spent 100's of dollars on Personal Trainers , & by far , Tom's program is as valid , professional , & targeted for my age as any I've seen or been involved with . Thanks , Tom !

As I said, the price of my book and all eight bonuses is going to remain at just $19.95. To get access to all the great information on exercise, fitness, weight loss, and diet; go to the If Not Now, When? sales page and you can download everything in just a few minutes.

I hope everyone who hasn't purchased my book yet takes advantage of this great offer.

Good luck, keep exercising, and remember – "If not now, when?".

Best Wishes,

Tom Manfredi

Food for Thought

A year older and a year wiser. Oh well, one out of two isn't bad.

Feature Article: The Top 8 Weight Loss Tips for 2012

We have all struggled with our weight at least once in our lifetime. Most of us have struggled a lot more than once. Here are some tips that can help to break that vicious cycle.

1. Don’t diet. This might sound silly, but it really is true. Dieting almost always indicates a temporary fix. Once you stop dieting, your weight inevitably sneaks back up. What you need are some eating habits that you can adopt for the long haul that will help you keep the weight off.

2. Drink an eight ounce glass of water 15 minutes before every meal. Filling your stomach with some water before you sit down to eat helps fill your stomach and reduce that hungry feeling.

3. Eat more fiber. Foods that contain more fiber will help you to feel full without overdoing the empty calories.

4. Satisfy cravings with proteins. It takes more energy to digest proteins than it does to digest either fat or carbs. And, protein helps build muscle. But if you eat protein, keep the next point in mind.

5. If you must snack, snack on healthy carbs along with protein. This combination satisfies your hunger much more effectively than either type of food does by itself.

6. Cut down on the amount of simple carbs you eat. Try to keep away from bad carbs like white rice, white bread, and sugar. Starch and sugar probably account for more obesity and heart disease than fats do. Try eating more whole grains – brown rice, oatmeal, whole wheat bread.

7. Don’t eat from the container. When you eat for a somewhat “unlimited” source, studies have shown that we are more likely to eat a lot more. So, put your snack in a small bowl, and don’t go back for refills.

8. Try to eat every few hours. If you eat three sensible, small meals of about 400 calories each, and have a healthy, 100 calorie snack midmorning and mid-afternoon, you will feel little or no hunger on about 1400 calories per day. And if you need to, an evening snack of 100 calories will still keep most of us at weight losing level; especially if you add some moderate exercise to your daily regime.

    PerformBetter.com

This site offers all kinds of exercise and rehab equipment. They have exercise bands, balls, mats, foam rolls, weights, and all kinds of other equipment. If you need any kind of exercise aids, this site is definitely worth looking at

    YogaDirect.com

As the name implies, this site specializes in equipment used for yoga. They have excellent prices, and sell some very good exercise mats, along with other helpful equipment, books and videos.

PowerSystems.com This is another site similar to Perform Better. They have a great variety of exercise equipment that you may find difficult to get at regular stores.

    ActiveForever.com

This site has equipment that is more medically based. It may be a good alternative if you're looking for physical therapy equipment or other things that a medical person may have recommended.

    Shoebuy.com

I have a lot of trouble finding shoes that fit me right (weird foot problems), but this site often works for me. They not only have very competitive prices and a great variety of shoes, but they offer f.r.e.e shipping and f.r.e.e returns.

    FootSolutions.com

This site tends to specialize more in orthotics and other foot aids as well as speialty shoes for people with foot problems.

Foot Solutions: Better Health Through Your Feet

    Buy.com

This site really has little to do with fitness or nutrition, but it is one of my favorite sites. They carry everything from electronics to books. Their prices are some of the most competitive on the internet, and they often offer free shipping. If I am looking to buy almost anything, I check them out first. This link is only for US and Canadian buyers.

    Buy.com

    Identity Theft

I don’t know about you, but with all the news coverage lately about identity theft and all the problems it can cause for people, my wife and I have become somewhat paranoid about shredding any mail we get with any kind of identifying info in it, and she freaks out any time I order something on the internet and give out info there.

Well, a woman I know here in Arizona recently sent me some info about a company that offers $1,ooo,ooo coverage to help take care of the problem if someone steals your identity. The company is called LifeLock. You can get to their site by clicking on the banner below if it's visable, or by copying the following code into your browser –

They charge a very reasonable monthly fee and offer a number of included services (they also give discounts for paying annually). Go take a look and see what you think. I signed up. I think my peace of mind is worth that kind of money.
