Editor's Note

Hi,

Not too much happening here in Arizona. The weather is finally cooling off some. This week we are suppose to have some days with highs only in the 70's. We haven't had temperatures that low since early June.

Here's a little early holiday gift for everyone. It's my opinion that many of us have a tendency to wait too long to do the things that are good for us. Hence, the motto of this newsletter, "If Not Now, When?". As many of you know, that is also the title of my recently published book, which is a guide to lifetime fitness and health for baby boomers and seniors.

Most people wait until after the holidays to start worrying about what they should be doing to improve their health and fitness. Waiting that long makes the effort that much more difficult. Therefore, in order to help my readers out, I have decided to reduce the price of my book for the holiday season a little early.

Effective immediately, the price of my book and all eight bonuses is reduced from $27.77 to just $19.95. To get access to all the great information on exercise, fitness, weight loss, and diet; just go to the If Not Now, When? sales page and you can download everything in just a few minutes.

I hope everyone who hasn't purchased my book yet takes advantage of this great offer.

Good luck, keep exercising, and remember – "If not now, when?".

Best Wishes,

Tom Manfredi

Feature Article: Secrets of The Dr Oz Diet

Not too many people choose to be unhealthy, and yet, in the U.S. and elsewhere, our health is in steady decline. More than two-thirds of U.S. adults, and more than a third of kids are overweight or obese.

According to Dr. Mehmet Oz, heart surgeon and Emmy-winning TV host, "The problem isn't that people don't want to eat well and be well . . . the problem is that a lot of folks just don't know what a healthy diet looks like." And one of the big reasons for this is that the rules keep changing.

Just go to any book store and look through the diet section. There are so many different "expert" opinions on what we should be eating to lose weight and be healthy, that even people educated in nutritional science can become confused. Even the U.S. government keeps changing the rules with its different food pyramids. How can we not be confused?

In an article published in the September 12, 2011 issue of Time magazine, Dr. Oz attempts to address some of these issues. Following are some of the major points from this article.

  • We now know much more than we did before about how food reacts in our bodies. And with that comes new insight into healthy eating that is more than just conventional wisdom or gimmickry.

  • Forget about diet soda and low-fat foods. Instead, eat some eggs, whole milk, salt, fat, nuts, wine, chocolate and coffee. All of these foods and many more can be beneficial to your body. But, overindulging can cause problems. The keys to all of these foods, and most other foods, is moderation.

  • One of the most dangerous food labels to come along is "fat free". Manufacturers stripped natural fats from products, but in order to get the flavor that was lost they had to add more sodium, sugar, and thickeners.

  • Many of the fad diets do cause you to lose weight quickly, but most of the weight loss is from loss of fluids. These diets are neither practical or nutritionally sound, and the weight returns as quickly as it comes off.

  • High protein low carb diets (like Atkins) have been popular because people initially lose weight. The problem was that the weight loss was not being sustained. There are only so many foods you can ban before people's palates rebel. Many nutritionists are concerned about eliminating whole grains and dairy products.

  • Personalized eating is an important consideration. A diet that's good for a growing boy in his teens is not going to be as good for a post menopausal woman in her 70's.

  • One of the most important changes taking place on the food front is the balance between diet and exercise. To maintain a healthy weight, calories consumed must equal calories burned.

  • A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine found that the foods most associated with adding pounds were french fries, potato chips, sugary drinks, meats, sweats, and refined grains. The foods most associated with shedding pounds were yogurt, nuts, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

There is a lot more good information in this article. If you can find a copy of it, I think you will find it to be very good reading.

    Identity Theft

I don’t know about you, but with all the news coverage lately about identity theft and all the problems it can cause for people, my wife and I have become somewhat paranoid about shredding any mail we get with any kind of identifying info in it, and she freaks out any time I order something on the internet and give out info there.

Well, a woman I know here in Arizona recently sent me some info about a company that offers $1,ooo,ooo coverage to help take care of the problem if someone steals your identity. The company is called LifeLock. You can get to their site by clicking on the banner below if it's visable, or by copying the following code into your browser –

They charge a very reasonable monthly fee and offer a number of included services (they also give discounts for paying annually). Go take a look and see what you think. I signed up. I think my peace of mind is worth that kind of money.
