Hi,


September was a very quiet month. The weather is starting to cool down a little so exercising outdoors is becoming more pleasant again.

I have a business trip to Detroit scheduled for this week, next week is our 41st wedding anniversary, and the week after that we're driving up to Las Vegas to meet some good friends for a long weekend.

I volunteer at a Japanese Garden down in Phoenix as a docent. The garden is just opening for the season, so I'll be going down there a few times a month to conduct tours for school children and other groups.

This month I thought I'd do a quick article about meditation. Most people don't realize just how beneficial meditation can be for their health. I hope you enjoy the information.

Feature Article - Health Benefits of Meditation

Though meditation is usually recognized as a largely spiritual practice, it also has many health benefits. Some health benefits of meditation may include:

  • Lowering oxygen consumption.
  • Decreasing respiratory rate.
  • Increasing blood flow and slowing the heart rate.
  • Increasing exercise tolerance in heart patients.
  • Leads to a deeper level of relaxation.
  • Good for people with high blood pressure because it helps bring the B.P. down.
  • Reducing anxiety attacks by lowering the levels of blood lactate.
  • Decreasing muscle tension ( and any pain due to tension) and headaches.
  • Building self-confidence.
  • Helping in chronic diseases like allergies , arthritis, etc.
  • Reducing Pre- menstrual Syndrome.
  • Enhancing the immune system.


    How to Meditate:
    Meditation involves sitting in a relaxed position and clearing your mind. You may focus on a repetitive sound, or by counting your own breaths, or on nothing at all. It’s necessary to have 5-20 distraction-free minutes to spend. It’s helpful to have silence and privacy.

    If you haven't tried meditation before you might find it useful. Give it a try and see what you think. Or, in the case of meditation, it's actually what you don't think that counts.

    Question – What kind of exercise equipment do I need?

    Answer - The kind and amount of exercise equipment you get depends on both the amount and kind of exercise you plan to do as well as your budget. Although I have a complete home gym; including a multi-station weight machine, a treadmill, an exercise bike, exercise balls and bands, and a set of dumbbells, I think that is too much equipment for the average person.

    In my opinion, just about anyone can do very well with an exercise ball, exercise bands, and a few dumbbells. Those will take care of all your strength exercises, and you can walk or ride a bike for your aerobic exercise.

    I don’t know about you, but with all the news coverage lately about identity theft and all the problems it can cause for people, my wife and I have become somewhat paranoid about shredding any mail we get with any kind of identifying info in it, and she freaks out any time I order something on the internet and give out info there.
